Make empathy part of every tech job

Technologists make billions of daily decisions that shape society.

Empathy in Tech equips them to do it with care, responsibility, and ethics.

Technology shapes the world — and it’s shaped by everyday decisions.

Technologists decide what gets built, who it serves, and how it behaves. Every tiny decision and every line of code has the potential to shape society.

But most people in tech have never been taught how to think through those decisions with empathy.

It’s not a character flaw. It’s a training gap.

We believe empathy should be part of every developer’s toolkit — and we’re building the resources to make that happen.

Empathy Training for Technologists

Empathy in Tech is a nonprofit initiative that teaches empathy as a core technical skill — not a soft bonus, not a corporate value statement, but a practical part of building better systems.

Help Us Train the Tech Industry

Your donation gives technologists tools to consider to the world they’re creating — not just the code they’re shipping.

Conversations about Technical Empathy

Each episode of Empathy in Tech sparks dialogue about what it really takes to build ethical, people-first technology — from the codebase to the boardroom.

Researching Empathy in Software Development

Hashini Gunatilake is a researcher exploring the role of empathy in developer-stakeholder interactions within software engineering. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Software Engineering at Monash University as part of the HumaniSE Lab to identify ways to improve software engineering processes and outcomes through empathetic practices. Her research contributions have been published in leading software engineering journals, including ACM Transactions on Software Engineering and Methodology (TOSEM), Information and Software Technology (IST), and the Journal of Systems and Software (JSS).

We Equip Technologists With Skills to Prioritize People

Technology touches nearly every part of modern life — from how we learn and work to how we access healthcare, connect with others, and participate in democracy.

When technologists are trained to think with empathy and responsibility, we see:

  • Products that work better for more people — not just power users
  • Stronger trust between teams, companies, and communities
  • More thoughtful decisions in high-stakes environments
  • A tech industry that earns the public’s trust

Faster innovation while building a future that works — for everyone.
